About the program I mentioned before, we presented our ideas at Cyberport today. I think it is quite positive that we could be selected to join the bootcamp at Canbridge.
There are some questions about our ideas that the judges have pointed out, and I have learned something from it.
We want to build an app that compares different payment methods, so that we can get the corresponding discounts and coupons provided by those service providers. What we have been dreaming of is that there will be APIs or we could do data mining. However, as the judges mentioned, it might not be the actual case. There are no other ways for us to get that data directly on our own; we have to cooperate with those service providers, and there will be no reason for those service providers to give that information to us.
Another point is that we also want to handle the online ordering service for university canteens, so that students can order in advance and save time. The problem with it is that we haven\’t looked up the regulations or restrictions of the school canteen. We are assuming that it will work, and we are further developing everything based on that.
Based on the above two points, there\’s another problem: the app\’s features are not focused. We are offering several services, and also as the judges have mentioned, startups should be focused. There\’s actually a real-life example for me to reference what will happen if one is not. Yeah, the startup I have been working for.
To sum up, I have identified two main issues. Firstly, we have not given enough thought to the feasibility of the project, and secondly, we lack focus as we have multiple features that may not be related to each other.
Besides, about our performance in the presentation and Q&A session.
There are tough questions, questions for which we don\’t have answers. But in another way, they are inspiring because they pointed out our problems and push us to think deeper or from another angle.
One of the people on the team tries to say that our ideas are perfect and that we always have an answer to their questions. But no, we don\’t. Some of the answers he provided did not address the question. I think it would be better to admit that we don\’t yet have a solution and that we are willing to learn.
We are only students, not experts. It\’s fine for us to admit that we don\’t know something. It\’s much better than trying to come up with something else to say in response.
Hope we could get in!!!! Crossing fingers!
