It is a Netflix series.
I watched two episodes yesterday and it was acceptably good for me. I watched two more episodes today and just couldn\’t stop, and I\’m now on episode 6.
This series is basically about how individuals and couples handle their money. Their bank accounts, their investment plans, their future goals for a rich life.
I really appreciate the improvements people have made through this program. One particular couple impressed me. In the first episode of the show, the woman says she doesn\’t trust the man financially, even though they already have two kids together and the man has quit his job to babysit. Then, when they finally started talking about money, they got themselves into constant arguments. But after some improvements and taking certain steps, I could feel that the dynamic between the couple had changed and I could feel that the family was reaching a balance and that their relationship had switched from a dominated one to a two-sided one.And they acknowledged at the end of the session that at that time, when they first entered the show, their relationship was actually going through some difficult times. I mean, that is a huge progress.
This show really got me thinking about the way I handle money and how I will handle it in the future when I graduate or something. What will my strategy be like? I know it\’s right around the corner, I\’m making money from my internship, I\’ve had the opportunity to go to some great places with a lot of expenses covered, I\’ve been saving my pocket money and all that. And looking back at my investments, I can say that they are a mess. I just recently paid a late charge on my credit card and I have money all over the place in several accounts and I really have no idea how much money I have in total. I made multiple investments in various things, but after I put the money in, I just left them there and seldom checked on them. And about the purchases I made, it got better in recent months, that I am satisfied with my big spendings and I am wasting less money on unnecessary clothing and other stuff.
I\’m grateful and lucky that my parents still support me financially, but I think it\’s never too early to start being financially independent. I know it\’s some sort of cultural difference that Westerners deal with their finances earlier than we do, however, I have to admit that I still have a long way to go to reach the point where I feel confident in managing my own money.
It is inspiring, I enjoyed the show.
