“The limits of my language mean the limits of my world.”

“The limits of my language mean the limits of my world.” – Ludwig Wittgenstein, Tractatus logigo-philosphicus, 1922.

Almost all human communication is based on language. While physical gestures play a large role in conversation, it is still just a tool to facilitate your language. Smooth conversations cannot be carried out purely through physical gestures.

I am currently working in this environment where my mother language is different from all the rest. I could understand some of their language, but I couldn\’t understand all of them and it\’s hard for me to speak their language. And I do feel lonely from time to time.

I really learned the lesson. No matter how much they claim that their working language is English, they don\’t use it in their day-to-day conversations. But it\’s the daily conversations where you can get to know them and become friends with them, you need to know their language to really be one of them.

The more you understand their language, the more you get to communicate with them, the more people you will know and the more people you will be friends with. The limits of my language is the limits of my world.
